at home highlights in DENVER.She offered to blog about her recent at home highlighting experiment.I decided on athome highlights.
Back in october, i lightened my dark brown hair with a semipermanent storebought box dye, and while it looked good for a few weeks, i ended up with major roots.
This time, my goal was a more natural chestnut base with some very subtle caramel highlights.
Since athome highlights are a first for me, i made sure to do some major research before i even bought a kit.
I read all of about highlights and i checked out the online reviews for some of the major drugstore brands.
The twostep system, , got the best ratings, but i had no idea which shade to go with.
I set up shop in my bathroom, and with the help of my mother, got to work.
We applied the base color evenly to my entire head and let it set for 25 minutes before rinsing and conditioning.
Then came the highlighting.
The kit comes with two highlighting tools: a wand, which looks like a jumbo mascara spool, or an applicator that looks like a mini flat iron.
I opted for the latter, since i thought it was better for small sections of hair.
I only wanted to add highlights around my hairline with a few subtle streaks peaking out from underneath in the front, so i sectioned off hair with a part from ear to ear and clipped the rest back.
I started with my hairline and took toothpickwidth sections and pulled the applicator down the shaft of my hair.
One of the highlights looked really light.
I jumped in the shower, completely ignoring the instructions to wait a full 25 minutes to avoid brassy results.
I got lucky because my highlights turned out more gold than orange.
Both my mom and sister agreed that the streaks looked natural and really illuminated my face.
Have any of you ladies colored or highlighted your hair at home?
Were the results good or bad?
What do you think of my diy skills?
